I am based in a purpose built training yard on a stunning part of the Churn Estate. It is on the Oxfordshire and Berkshire border within easy reach of Didcot, Reading, Newbury, Oxford and Wantage.
The yard was originally designed for training racehorses so everything has been built to the highest and safest standards. The 40 stables are all within a large dutch barn for protection from all weathers and have sealed rubber floors for the ultimate in horse comfort and hygiene. All stables have anti-weave grills and automatic waterers.
There is a dedicated hot and cold wash off area before and after exercise.
Within the barn there is an office, tack room and kitchen area, a competition tack room, a hat and boot room, a heated rug store, a large feed room and a toilet.
The barn is well ventilated with high roofs, adjustable glass vents above each stable, double doors at the ends and both sides and wide walkways to reduce any risk of cross-contamination.
We have around 5 acres of turnout immediately adjacent to the barn.
Adjacent to the yard we have a 20 metre lunge and breaking pen with full height fencing, a 6 horse Claydon horse walker. A 65m x 40m arena with a competition standard surface is due to be built this summer.
We have two well established grass gallops for fitness work and the yard is in an area renowned for exceptional hacking, with miles of traffic-free tracks on the estate and the Ridgeway.
I live on site alongside the team from Noel Williams’ yard and estate staff. There is additional accommodation on site and on the estate for staff.
We are immediately adjacent to Noel Williams’s successful racing yard, with Eve Johnson-Houghton to the east of us and Alden Farm’s training yard to the west.
The yard is situated above the picture-perfect village of Blewbury with some excellent pubs.
